Trichinella Spiralis in Human Muscle
These are photomicrographs of Trichinella spiralis in human muscle tissue. This parasite is transmitted in undercooked meats, especially pork. The cysts hatch in the intestines and produce large numbers of larvae that migrate into muscle tissue. They produce muscle pain and swelling that can be seen in the face and around the eyes.
