Titer

Definition

A titer is a measurement of the amount or concentration of a substance in a solution. It usually refers to the amount of medication or antibodies found in a patient's blood and serum.

Information

Measurements of blood titers of certain substances, such as antibodies or medications, can be extremely helpful in determining necessary treatments. Antibody titers can give important information regarding a person's current immunity to diseases (such as measles, small pox, hepatitis). Medication titers are useful in determining the adequacy of treatments, or if a person is receiving too much medication.
