Bloody or Tarry Stools: Common Causes
Upper GI tract (usually black stools):
- Bleeding stomach or duodenal ulcer

- Mallory-Weiss tear (a tear in the esophagus from violent vomiting)

- Bowel ischemia (a lack of proper blood flow to the intestines)
