Shoulder Pain: Prevention
- If you have had shoulder pain in the past, use ice and anti-inflammatory medication (acetominophen or ibuprofen) after exercising.
- Learn proper exercises to stretch and strengthen your rotator cuff tendons and shoulder muscles. A doctor or physical therapist can help.
- If you develop or are recovering from tendinitis or impingement syndrome, continue to perform range-of-motion exercises with your shoulder to avoid "frozen shoulder."
-
Some sports-related shoulder problems are caused by poor technique. It is often less painful, not to mention less expensive, to prevent such problems by learning proper technique rather than getting medical help to fix a problem.
