Genetic factors may also be responsible. Sclerosing cholangitis occurs more often in men than women. This disorder is rare in children. Sclerosing cholangitis may also be caused by: - Choledocholithiasis
- Toxicity from chemicals, copper, bile acids
- Infections in the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts
