Phenylketonuria Diagnosis & Tests
Tests include:
- Enzyme assay to detect the carrier state (parents)
- Chorionic villus sample to detect fetal PKU (prenatal diagnosis)
- PKU screening (a heelstick blood sample from the infant to screen for PKU, mandatory in most states)
