Microalbuminuria test
Normal Values
Normally, most protein stays in the body, and little or no protein appears in the urine. The ratio of albumin to creatinine is usually less than 2.5 mg/mmol for men and 3.5 mg/mmol for women. - 30-300 mg of albumin in two different 24-hour urine samples is considered microalbuminuria
- More than 300 mg of albumin is considered albuminuria.
Normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. Talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test results.
What do Abnormal Results Mean?
If albumin is detected in the urine, this may indicate a problem with kidney function. Increased levels may occur with: - Certain immune disorders
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Some lipid problems
Further tests will be done to determine the severity of the problem.
