Lavender oil

Definition

Lavender oil is an oil made from the flowers of lavender. Lavender poisoning occurs when someone accidentally or intentionally swallows lavender oil.

This is for information only and not for use in the treatment or management of an actual poison exposure. If you have an exposure, you should call your local emergency number (such as 911) or the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Lavender oil (mainly linalyl acetate and linalool)

Where Found

In some perfumes
Used as a flavoring agent

Symptoms & Signs

Eyes, ears, nose, and throat
- Blurred vision
- Burning pain in the throat
- Burns to the eye
Gastrointestinal
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea (watery, bloody)
- Vomiting
Lungs
- Difficulty breathing (from breathing in or allergic reaction)
Skin
- Rash
