Barium swallow
EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) and biopsy
Chest MRI or thoracic CT (usually used for helping to determine the stage of the disease)
PET scan (sometimes useful for determine stage of disease and whether surgery is possible)
Evidence of occult blood in stool
