Complications
- Disfigurement from loss of facial movement
- Damage to the eye (corneal ulcers and infections)

Chronic spasm of face muscles or eyelids
- Chronic taste abnormalities
- Aberrant regeneration (nerves grow back to the wrong structures -- for example, smiling causes the eye to close)
