Chest Pain: Prevention
Making careful lifestyle choices is an important first step in preventing chest pain from heart disease. Some healthy habits include:
- Achieving and maintaining normal weight
- Controlling high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes
- Avoiding cigarette smoking and exposure to second-hand smoke
- Eating a diet low in saturated and hydrogenated fats and cholesterol, and high in starches, fiber, fruits, and vegetables
- Exercising 3 hours per week or more (such as 30 minutes per day, 6 days per week)
- Reducing stress
